FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Below are some of the questions we are frequently asked about wedding photography – we hope the answers will prove helpful.     Please don’t hesitate to contact us – chris@blackduckphotography.com.au –  if you have questions which are not answered here.

 

Q-   What is the pricing on your packages and what’s included?

A-   We wanted to make sure that choosing black duck photography as your wedding photographer was as simple as possible, so we have chosen to limit our packages to a choice of three. Our collections start at $2275 and include a pre-wedding session, coverage of your day from preparations to your reception entry and half hour following, a password protected on-line gallery, enlargements, album and discs of your images.   The difference between the collections is all about album choices.

We’re happy to discuss a custom package to meet your specific requirements.

And we can quote you for any additional options such as parent albums, wall acrylics, canvas etc.

We understand everyone has a budget to work with and we believe our collections offer real value  –  but when considering your decision remember your photography will be the one thing on your wedding day which will capture the moments, the emotions, the details that will be the memories you will cherish

 

Q-   Are all the images edited?

A-   Our collections include an on-line wedding gallery [password protected] – every image in the gallery is individually edited, including colour, contrast, cropping and blemish removal and images are provided to you as hi-res JPEG images, ready for printing.

If you have some favourite images that you would like as Art Edits these are an additional cost –  we’re happy to discuss your requirements and provide you a quote.

 

Q-   What happens if you are sick on our wedding day?

A-   Short of some catastrophe we’ll be there on your day! In the unlikely scenario that it’s impossible for us to be there we have access to other experienced wedding photographers.    But we can say we’ve never missed a wedding day and ‘touch wood’ we never will.

 

Q-   What is the pre-wedding session?

A-   We think this is one of the most important things you’ll do in your wedding planning. The session provides the opportunity for all of us to get to know each other a little better and  helps you feel more relaxed in front of the camera and understand all those little things  which will make you look amazing on your big day  ..  we want you to feel relaxed and be enjoying your wedding day and the pre-wedding session helps you overcome the nerves and/or concerns you might have about your photography.    It’s a relaxed fun session of around 1.1/2 hours, and you’ll get a mini-gallery and an enlargement as well.

Our couples comment all the time about how glad they were to have done the session as they felt so much more relaxed on their day and able to really have fun with their wedding photography.

Q-   What if you’re booked on our date?

A-   We have an associate who would be your photographer for the pre-wedding session and on the day ..  we always make sure you have an opportunity to meet up with him and Chris for a coffee before you make your decision to book – he’ll be with you all day and it’s important you feel relaxed with him.

All administration work [booking etc.], post production editing, preparation of album and enlargements is done by Chris.

 

Q-   Are there additional costs for travel?

A-   We shoot weddings in the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Mannum/Murray Bridge, McLaren Vale through to Port Elliot/Victor Harbor and these locations do not attract any travel costs. If you’re wedding is located further afield there may be some cost which we keep to a minimum.

 

Q-   How long before we get our photos etc.?

A-   With your approval we post a few sneak peeks on Facebook early in the week following your wedding day. On-line galleries are posted within 6-7 weeks, sooner if we can.     Enlargements take around a week and your wedding album around  5 weeks – though these times can be dependent on how busy the labs are.

 

Q-   We’re concerned that we don’t know have any experience with having our picture taken?

A-   We appreciate we’re not all models, and many of us aren’t totally comfortable in front of a lens. The pre-wedding session certainly helps you to relax with the camera, and on the day we encourage you to be yourselves and let the moments happen.     But at times this may mean some gentle encouragement and help to ensure we get those gorgeous shots of the two of you!

 

Q-   Can you help us with timing etc. for our wedding day?

A-   We’re more than happy to help with any questions you may have about timing and the planning of your wedding day, and we’ll be providing you a timing schedule a week before your wedding day so we all know what time everything is planned to happen – we want you having fun and enjoying yourselves, not thinking about when and where we should be!

 

Q-   We’ve seen images we like on Pinterest and in bridal magazines – can you send these to you?

A-   We’re always happy to see examples so we have a feel for what you like, but we can’t commit to taking exactly the same shot as many things like weather, location, time will influence this. Suffice to say we’re passionate about creating beautiful images of you and your day so we like to let things just evolve and capture the moments as they happen.

 

Q-   We might like to do a post-wedding shoot, is that an option?

A-   We’d love to talk to you about a post-wedding shoot – it’s a heap of fun and a great opportunity for the two of you to just be together and re-live some of the romance of your wedding day.

 

Q-   Do you do destination weddings?

A-   Absolutely – there are additional costs for travel and relative expenses, but we’re happy to work out something that will work for everyone.

 

Q-   What equipment do you use?

A-   We use Nikon professional gear, and we carry back-up camera bodies with a range of lenses. Our cameras have dual card slots so your images are backed-up in camera [should by chance a CF card fail your precious wedding images are still OK as we have the back-up card to use].     When we get home your images are backed-up in three separate drives.

 

Q-   What happens with the album design process?

A-   We ask that you make your selections for enlargements and album within 6 months of your wedding date. Whilst we can’t anticipate increases in album and enlargements costs these things happen, so if you place your album order after this 6 month period and there are increases in production costs, we will advise you and such costs will apply.

Your album design is prepared from your selections and sent to you for preview, three rounds of changes are included.     Once you approve the layout you choose your cover style – leather or acrylic – and once we have final approval the album is sent to print.

We’re happy to help you with some advice about selections and what will work best in your album if you get stuck!

 

Q-   Can you show us some complete weddings that we can look at?

A-   Certainly can!

 

Q-   What’s an on-line gallery?

A-   The on-line gallery is a private, password protected section on our website where your image are placed for family and friends to view your wedding story. All you do is provide the password to anyone you want.

 

Q-   What happens about family photos?

A-   Family photos are an important part of the record of your wedding. We provide you with a Family Photo List form which we ask you to complete and return to us two weeks before your wedding day.   We recommend where possible that you keep your groupings to immediate family – we’re happy to include additional groupings but recommend they be kept to a minimum.    We’ll co-ordinate everything on the day – whilst we want to ensure we capture all those people who matter most to you, it is important that there is some structure around this part of the day.

 

Q-   Can family members/friends take photos on the day?

A-   In our world of camera phones, iPads etc. we understand some of your guests will want to take photos of you – but we do ask that they stay in the background when we’re photographing family [we need everyone focussed on our lens] or taking portraits of the two of you.    We don’t encourage family and friends to come along on the location shoot as this is the part of the day when we want to capture the fun moments with your bridal party and those romantic moments between the two of you and having others there can be distracting.    We certainly will be wanting to take just the two of you away by yourselves for a half or so to record those first special moments together as husband and wife.

 

Q-   I’ve heard about boudoir shots from my friends, can you do these?

A-   We can certainly do a boudoir shoot as a surprise for the love of your life if this is something you’re interested in. We have had a number of brides who have asked to do this on the morning of their wedding – if this is what you’re thinking we need to know about this in advance to ensure we allow enough time for both these shots and your bridal formals.

 

We would recommend considering a boudoir shoot perhaps a couple of weeks out from your wedding date – you’ll be more relaxed, there will be more time available to have some fun with the shoot, and if you’re thinking you’d like to have an album or photobook printed we’ll have time to get that organised for you!

 

Q-   How far in advance do we need to book you?

A-   We recommend booking as soon as possible, dates can fill fast! Your photographer should be amongst the first things you book, along with your ceremony and reception venues;  the sooner you enquire and book the more certainty you have that your date will be available.

 

Q-   How does payment work if I book?

A-   We ask for a $500 deposit at the time of booking, with the balance to be paid two weeks before your wedding date. Interim payments, which can help with budgeting, are welcomed – just let us know when you make a payment so we don’t lose track.      Once the deposit is received and you sign the contract your date is booked exclusively for you;  should you need to cancel, any refund of deposit remains at the discretion of black duck photography.

 

Q-   OK, we’d love to have you photograph our day what do we do now?

A-   Head to our Contact Us page and let’s get together to meet and talk more about your wedding plans – it’s important you feel comfortable and relaxed with your photographer .. we’re going to be with you longer than anyone else on your wedding day! Then it’s just a matter of completing the Booking Form and paying your deposit.
